So, Jack wasn't napping so well yesterday and was shrieking as he does and Abby was eating goldfish.
She sighed, and told no one in particular, "I like it when its peaceful."
I laugh, "And its not peaceful anymore?"
Abby looks longingly into her goldfish and says, "Jack just makes it full of screaming."

Abby's Mountain Top

So, after a month of three ultimate play dates a week, Abby came to terms with the end. She missed her friends. She was sad. She suggested that perhaps we can do it again... all the time. I think we need to watch closely that she doesn't join a commune throughout her life. She *really* *really* likes people... a lot.

Abby and the Bee
Abby had her first bee sting last night - luckily she was with her grandparents who carried her around and made much of her.
She told me about it when she got home.
And there was this moment where she got very solemn, very heart felt, very very serious.
"I think... when I did that [stepped on the bee]" she is reluctant to continue, "I think I made it died."
:( poor sweetie. She thinks nothing of ordering the execution of flies, but perhaps being the cause feels different.

Jack-Jack
I LOVE this:
It's his new response to "peek-a-boo"... in other words, "wait a second, I can still see you if I just crane my neck..."And:
He is still very much on his way to walking. Crazy kid taking after his father. He has two months to reach his father's "record" to walking... That's... what... September? That feels fairly far away... maybe it won't be *that* early....As luck would have it, as Jack grows, he is becoming more and more like his namesake. Not a real person, but (for me) Jack-Jack from The Incredibles.
He's so cute - his own personal sign... for "pick me up, more, or bravo" is to clap. Right now Abby is sliding (and crashing) on the floor on oversized pillows. Jack loves it and claps it up to try to keep her going.

Abby... "I believe"
Abby kept waking up tonight... dreaming. Muttering in her half-waking state.
Steve, trying to get her out of whatever cycle she was in, asked her what the matter was, why was she upset.
And she said, "I'm just sad I can't fly"

Alien Butterflies and Climate Confusion
Some proof of Abby's climate confusion

- this was her choice of pajama tonight. That's flannel. And ... let's see it is... not cold here.
Abby has been taking her first art class and has been producing some VERY cool things. Today's project was to make butterflies. I mean look at this line up.
And look at this face... he's really got some personality.

Abby's Dolphin
Abby went with Zoozie on an errand... you know what that means... Abby got to choose a "toy treat." As Zoozie's errand was pool related (turkey pool guy), Abby's treat was as well.
She ended up choosing an inflatable dolphin. Zoozie (not new to this parenting thing) tried to steer her toward the more seaworthy caterpillar or, dare she suggest, the boat... but no, there was no dissuading Abby (who has always known exactly what she's wanted).
Well, sure enough, as soon as Abby got on the dolphin, even with Uncle Tim posing as the blond model as seen on the box, the dolphin immediately capsized, flipping Abby under the water.
Uncle Tim saved her, Abby, ever grateful, told me... of course she also mentioned that there on the box the little girl had her mother to hold onto the dolphin tail where all she had was Uncle Tim. *cough*

After recovering from the dolphin betrayal, Abby told them that that dolphin needed more swimanation and less fallanation. Amen, sweetie, amen.

THE Question
,
Word for Word. I kid you not.
"Momma, where do babies come from?"
On the way to playdate today.
And I swear I'm not making this up, she continued with, "I mean, exactly how are they made?"
uh....well....
um...
Other fun things Abby has been doing is "playing Miss Janet"
I only know it's Miss Janet because I've worked in the classroom. During "talk shares" Miss Janet allows the other kids to ask questions, then makes a note to herself who has asked a question so everyone gets a turn. So now Abby will sit with a book, pen and paper on her lap and ask me, "So, Adrea, what is your question for Snow White?" And she repeats the question. And sometimes, when we're doing multiple questions she shortens it, "You, your question for Cinderella, what is it?"
Miss Janet also tends to pounce on things or concepts that she realizes as she goes the kids are interested in clarifying, so she'll stop the off topic comments from continuing by saying, "That's a good question, let's talk about that."
SO Abby has started saying, "So, firetrucks... let's take some time to talk about fire trucks," or safety, or babies.
In case you're wondering, babies come from God... and they are made... well, they are made special.

Abby - Why Fight?
We all know we don't want to be exactly like our mothers (though of course for me, I wish I was a lot more like my mother in organization, energy, skill, talent - I just wish I didn't tell stories like her or confuse people the same or have the same sense of direction - or lack thereof... at least I KNOW I have no sense of direction - she still won't admit it).
But Abby, dear, there's no use fighting it... resistance is futile.
To someday be posted on Abby's photography blog:

(I have done nothing to these photos - vignette effect achieved by the placing of a finger partially over the lens... I think)

Jack, Godzilla?
Now that he insists on continuing his quest for upright living, is the leaping lizard going to be renamed Godzilla?
Jack pulls up on EVERYTHING and EVERYONE (including just plain trying to stand up all by himself) and not only cruises... but attempts to CLIMB.
LOVELY.
I see many calls to stathousecalls.com in my future.
My mom attempts to show him what to do once he is on his feet - her philosophy being: he's got to know (a la Professor Moody).
My philosophy is still somewhat stalled at, "he's trying to do what now?"
Steve tries to reason with him. It's not working.

Abby - Amazon or Eskimo?
I have, in the course of Abby's four and a half years on this planet, somehow completely screwed up her inner thermostat.
She is perfectly warm in the rain.
And unbearably cold in heat.
And wind. She really doesn't like the wind. Wind is the only thing that will entice her to wear a sweater (though usually she'll just insist on staying inside).
Otherwise, this girl does not believe in sweaters. Her pre-school teacher has given up. Miss Pat, who has seen over thirty years of kids not wanting sweaters... has given up. Abby is *not* privvy to the cold.
Lucky future husband, huh?
Oh, but wait, future husband, there's something else.
She is never cold... until it's time for bed. At bedtime, whether it is 100 degrees or 50, she wants blankets. And whats more? She wants pants and socks and... SNUGGLING. Not just "phone it in" snuggling either. She wants close up, cuddle up snuggling... UNDER the covers.
Maybe she just wants to rebel. Laugh in the face of society's ideas of acceptable temperature controls.
I'm sorry future son-in-law... I'll make you chocolate chip cookies... or a nice icy soft drink for those snuggly heat waves in your future.
