Jack - The Master Roller

How he gets from here:

The whole process takes a few minutes, but he's addicted. He just can't not roll over when I put him down.

Abby's Unfair Tactics

Look, I'm only human. So when my four and a half year old daughter is coughing night in and night out and I've just gone in to give her tylenol and she says,

"Did you know what my problem was?" (i.e. I came in with the medicine so I knew why she was calling me)
"Yes, I'm sorry you're coughing."
"Maybe my cough happens because I'm alone." (she would prefer having a cuddle buddy with her every night - nevermind that no one with the task ever sleeps because Abby sleeps like a working windmill.)

My heart is just not that strong.

Abby - Oh No...

Funniest Abby quote of the day:

Oh no, I'm turning into a worm...

Jack - The Cuteness

Is there any way of not adoring him, he's just so dang cute?

Abby's Commercials

So we're driving to school this morning and Abby says, "Mom! I saw something." And I thought it might be a machine or a tool because we had just driven by some construction.

What did you see?
I saw something that you clean the potty with when it gets germs.
Oh (I'm thinking she saw some soap?)
Yeah, it's a lotion that you use to clean the potty or anything to get the germs off it.
Oh-
I saw it on Television.
Oh!
Yeah, and you should get some because it gets all the germs off anything like the potty or counters... but not people.
Right, no not people.
Yeah. Maybe I'll get it for you for Christmas!
OooH, yeah... thanks. (sigh)

(I vividly remember running in to tell my mom about A-L-L and thinking how revolutionary this must be for the commercial to say such wonderful things about it)

Abby's Easter Story

I want to tell you about Easter.
Some people hated Jesus so they put him on a cross.
And when he was in the cross he died.
And then THREE DAYS. Three days later he a-rose and he was alive again.

Abby's Solemn Palm Sunday

We missed church on Palm "Saturday" (we go to church on Saturday nights), but asked Marysue and David to bring Abby - oh we missed such a show. I'd forgotten they have all the kids march down the aisles with palm fronds and up at the front of the church. As you can see, Abby has no joy in music or the Lord. Sad really how we've completely snuffed out her spirit. ;)

(Apparently she even whacked the pastor in the face with her palm frond in her zeal)

Sincere thanks to Sarah for capturing Abby's celebration.

Before Abby Grows Up

some things to remember (that I may be repeating):

Abby loves her bike so much that she insists on kissing it goodbye when we go somewhere and she frets over it's safety or loneliness when we leave.

Abby still calls a shopping cart a "carpet"

Anything too old for Abby she assumes she'll be ready for when she is the ripe age of 5.

Abby still thinks to bless is to sneeze. She yells out, "Jack blessed!" and when I said, "Bless you, Jack" Abby said, "No, Mom, I wanted to bless him!"

She wants me to cut her "fingermails" before the bugs get in them.

She loves "Branch" dressing.

She accidentally hit her "elmo" on the doorway.

Abby's Jokes

Abby loves to tell jokes.
Usually they go something like this:
"What do you call a dog on a boat?"
"I dunno, what?"
"A dog boat!!!!!"
uh...

Yesterday she brought a box out of her room and said, "Mom, I have some jokes for you. Close your eyes."
I was then treated to a ten minute show of displaying all of Mr. Potatoe head's feet like this:

Jack's Sitting... Sort of...

Okay, here we go...

Hold it... hold it...

Good job!

The Great Escape

Abby often wants people to snuggle with her in bed. Tonight she requested a real person, not a doll person. I agreed it was wonderful to snuggle but she has to be a big girl and go to sleep on her own. She said, "But, Mom, I can't possibly go to sleep alone, if I'm alone I might escape from my bed!"

Great point, we'd better...

Hmm.

Wait a second...

Abby is Strong and Mighty

Abby was watching Pearl do something difficult and she said confidently, "She can do it, because she's four, and four year olds are strong and mighty!" (something her teacher apparently tells the class often)

Well, we had our teacher's conference with Miss Janet (the aforementioned strong and mighty teacher) today. She told us that Abby is very social (yup, I'd picked up on that), that she is a leader but she can defer without losing it. She has a great imagination and focus. She loves loves loves to draw (I hadn't actually realized that she did that much drawing in school). When she loses focus during rug time and Miss Janet calls her on it, she doesn't get defiant or rude, she just gives a little giggled "whoops" type thing and gets back in line. She's doing okay with small motor skills and needs to be encouraged to go outside and run (surprise because thats all she does when I work at the school!). She is great is groups and uses her whole body when she speaks. There is not one little bit of her that stays still when she is telling a story.

Miss Janet said that when Abby first came to the school tears were her first reaction to ... anything and that she (Abby) has worked so hard that she only comes to a teacher now if she's tried everything else. She (Abby) has a little problem letting someone else speak but that is just because she has so much to say.

And after the first wave of pride that Abby is indeed as wonderful as I thought she was, I felt proud that she is so confident. Sometimes, as her mom, I cringe at just how confident she sounds... i.e. the opposite of humble. But lack of confidence is so often the root of so many problems later on, and I very much want Abby to continue to believe she is as strong and mighty as anyone can possibly be.

The Family Scowl (draft)

Jack All Night

Jack slept through the niht for the first time last night. From 8pm (or that is when I put him down and he didn't cry) to 6am.

And yes, I checked his breathing ten - twenty times.

Abby's Eye View (revisited)

Jack Just Now

Jack finds his Dogs

One of you wonderful family or friends gave Jack these cute doggie socks. I put them on Jack today and didn't think much about it until I noticed he was straining to touch his toes. He'd found those dogs all right, and was trying to get them. SO cute. I then played kissie (in a very manly way of course) with him with them for a good ten minutes. Awesome!
